COVID-19 has locked us up at home for 21 days. Some are already bored listening to the decision taken by the government. People who are working from home are also bored thinking what they would do over the weekends as no one is allowed to step out of the house. Now let’s think of those days when you were loaded with work and some of you had to even work on the weekends due to demand of your company. Even then we were sad about not having time for ourselves or for our family. We are lucky enough that we have got the chance now to cover up for those days where we could not do things we really wanted to apart from work. I’m sure many of you would think what should we do all day home? Why? We have ten things or even more if we sit and think of with peaceful mind.
In this day and age where people do not get time for them, take a deep breath and make a list of things you would like to do during these days. Many people like me work in such an organisation where our nature of work does not allow us for work from home. Employees like us have ample of time to explore your hidden abilities and hobbies. Activate your mind and grab this opportunity to know what you capable of are and what can you do in this kind of situation rather than getting bored at home and making a habit of Eat, Sleep, Netflix, and Repeat. Initially even I had done the same for two days and then realised this would help me just increase my weight but nothing else and later I will have to hit the gym.
Let’s talk about what are the active things we can think of to utilise our time in a meaningful way. Well firstly what I can think of is writing as I am a blog writer so I would love to do this every day but again this would eat up just few hours not the whole day, so what about the rest of the hours?
Morning Fitness– Knowing that the gym centres and yoga classes are shut down, why not start your day with light warm up and 30 mins or exercise? That will make you feel rejuvenated. Then followed by cleaning your house is also a part of an activity. Especially those men who are at home now should help their partners doing household chores in order to finish early and have a cup of tea together. Due to the quarantine situation you can even take the pleasure of listening to those chirpy birds clearly which we have never bothered to hear.
Reading books – Book lovers, here is the time to finish all the back logs on the shelves which were waiting for you. Why not read for few hours in a day, why not cultivate that habit if you haven’t thought of it earlier? Even for kids, I would say this is the best way to keep them busy at least for few hours. I recently came across the news where in Amazon has come up with free audible for kids and teens. For adults, fiction, non-fiction, spiritual books are also available online where you can download for free and read. You can learn something new from these books, improve your language skills. I believe at least one hour of the day will help you serve the purpose.
Gaming– Playing strategic games, board games or solving puzzles for sometime will refresh you. Sit with your kids and relive your childhood days by playing with them, teaching them old games which you have played and grown up with. This would help you connect with them more easily.
Communicate – As we know that our busy schedules have drift us apart from our close relatives and may be even our family members. Here is the time when you can sit and call them one after the other and communicate which you haven’t done since long. Couples have the best time stay together all day and know each other better and most importantly avoid arguments. Knowing and understanding each other more would help live happily together.
Know yourself – Most important thing of the day one can do is talk to yourself, spend some time alone. The best habit everyone should follow is talking to yourself, taking out at least 10 mins of the day for your own self. Remember, you are the best friend to your own self first and then the rest of the people.
These are some of the basic things we can do to use the time given apart from our work. Help your partners are they have always been doing the same thing staying at home, they do not get leaves or such work from home situations. Give them some break and let them know you care.
